Haiti Relief Effort

As most of you know, a massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the nation of Haiti on Tuesday. Red Cross estimates that over 45,000 people were killed. A number of nations have begun to send aid and now we are doing our part. We are collecting donations for medicalteams.org a team of doctors who are in route to Haiti now. They are a group of volunteer doctors and nurses who will begin treating the injured citizens as soon as they arrive. Please do your part to help these people in need and bring a donation to the office. Checks should be made payable to Medical Teams International. Thank you for helping those who are less fortunate.

Spark of Love Toy Drive

The 9th grade sponsored a toy drive! New, unwrapped toys or sports equipment were gathered in boxes at the office. The toys were given to needy, underpriveleged children in our area. Thank you everyone for the support!

MCP Drama

"Violet Sharp"

In December (running 12/1 through 12/5) in Montclair's Little Black Theater Mr. Boles Drama Class did it again. Violet Sharp, this intriguing play based on the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby, was another exceptional performance by this talented ensemble of young actors; it sure kept us on the edge of our seat!!! Alyx Cohen, Evan Mulholland, Eric Abbado, Jessica Cole, Sam Halote, and many more... What a great show!!!

Important Advice Regarding Seniors and College Admissions
Congratulations!!!  You have been accepted into the college or university of your choice.  So now what?  Relax?  Avoid homework?  Pay less attention in class?  Choose beach days over school days?  Not if you want to keep your acceptance safe.  More than ever, colleges are revoking admission due to a drop in grades during the senior year.  David Hawkins, who is the Director of Public Policy and Research for the National Association of College Admission Counseling, provides important information about why students lose their admissions to college in the following short interview:  SCHOOLS REVOKING ADMISSION

Congratulations
It is our pleasure to announce that Mr. Greg Patterson has been appointed to the position of Athletic Director effective immediately.  He will work with Mr. Howard Abrams, who will assume the role of Assistant Athletic Director.  Mr. Patterson graduated from Montclair Prep in 1985 and returned to teach and coach from 1993 through 2000, leading the boys’ basketball team to a State Championship in 1995 and earning a State Championship Runner-up position the following year.  After a three year stint at Viewpoint School, Mr. Patterson returned to Montclair in 2003 and has, along with Coach Abrams, led the boys’ basketball team to back-to-back CIF championships in 2005 and 2006.

Montclair Golfer Jared Stone Signs with Cal State Monterey Bay
SEASIDE, Calif. - Cal State Monterey Bay men's head golf coach Jason Owen announced today that the Otters have signed an outstanding golfer Jared Stone, from Montclair College Preparatory School in Van Nuys, California.
  
In 2006, Stone was the youngest golfer to qualify for the Southern California PGA Amateur Championships, where he placed 13th overall.  A three-time CIF All-League Alpha first team selection, Stone was Alpha League Champion his junior year.  Stone qualified for the 2007 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships held at PGA in West Palm Beach Florida.  In 2008, Stone qualified as the first alternate for the U.S. Men's Amateur Golf Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
  
"Jared is my first official recruit for CSUMB, and I couldn't be more excited," Owen said.  "He has all of the tools to help us win many conference championships and a national title."

Music Electives added to 2008-2009 School Year!
"If music be the food of love, play on!"  - William ShakespeareMontclair College Prep is very excited to announce the addition of three new classes to the Music Department this fall.  Beginning in September, Guitar, Piano, Voice and Musical Theater will be offered during 7th period.  We are very fortunate to have added the talents of Stan "The Guitar Man" Smith, Marjorie Vander Hoff, and Karen Ray to our already outstanding Montclair cast and crew. If you are one of our many talented students and want to develop your craft and artistry, or if 7th period Study Hall just isn’t your thing, sign-up and rock on!These classes are elective courses, are taught at all levels, from beginner to proficient, and are open to all Montclair students.  Enrollment will take place during the first and second weeks of school and, since class sizes need to remain small (10-15, excluding Musical Theater), they promise to fill up quickly.Please see Mr. Gika for registration and join the band!
